PLA

PLA is a special type of plastic made from plants like corn or sugarcane. Unlike regular oil-based plastics, it is designed to break down in industrial composting facilities. This makes PLA a popular choice for companies looking for more sustainable packaging options.

This material has several useful features. It is naturally clear, has a glossy finish, and can be shaped easily using standard thermoforming machines. PLA works well for products with shorter life cycles, such as food containers, disposable cups, and promotional items.

At BlissPak, we help businesses explore sustainable material solutions. The PLA we supply meets industry standards for compostable plastics, ensuring it performs reliably in your packaging projects. When you work with BlissPak, you get more than just materia, you get a partner who understands how to balance environmental goals with practical manufacturing needs.

PLA FAQs

Yes, PLA (Polylactic Acid) is fully biodegradable. Derived from renewable biomass like corn and sugarcane, it decomposes completely into carbon dioxide and water in 6-12 months under industrial composting (55-60℃, proper humidity, microbial action) with no plastic residues. It degrades slower naturally but is far better than traditional plastics, causing no long-term pollution.

Yes, PLA is safe, non-toxic and ideal for food-contact packaging. Free of plasticizers, heavy metals and other harmful substances, it meets global food-grade standards. It is widely used for food blister boxes, fresh trays and tableware to ensure food safety.

PLA has average heat resistance, with a conventional range of 50-60℃. It is not recommended for high-temperature food (e.g., freshly cooked food, boiling water-brewed items), as it may deform or soften. Suitable for room-temperature or refrigerated food; modified PLA (heat resistance 70-80℃) works for medium-high temperature scenarios.

PLA boasts excellent moldability, making it a top choice for blister packaging. High-transparency PLA has PET-like light transmittance, clearly showing internal products—perfect for cosmetics, electronics and food. It is easy to thermoform into various blister boxes and trays with a smooth surface, enhancing packaging quality.

PLA has moderate physical properties, meeting most conventional packaging protection needs. It offers good tensile strength, rigidity and tear resistance to protect products during transport and storage. Lightweight, it also reduces logistics costs. Its brittleness slightly increases at low temperatures, which can be optimized via modification for outdoor use.
